Network LEO - Kick-Off meeting

On February 6th, 2012 the Kick-Off meeting of Network LEO was held at the Technical University in Berlin.

At this workshop with the support of the Innovation Center IGE of the TU Berlin the Baltic Sea Partnership was strengthened and scientific Polish-Scandinavian-German contacts were established in the areas of food science, energy and transport. Goal of the event was to create a network and generate innovative project ideas leading to international joint research projects.

On behalf of Prof. Dietrich Knorr and the IGE staff, we would like to thank everyone for a large attendance. The meeting has been a great success! More information on the LEO-Kick-Off Meeting can be found here.

German and Polish scientists will research conjointly

Which food science topics are suited for Polish-German research projects and which funding possibilities exist? To these issues the workshop "Odra-Partnership - Polish-German Food Science Workshop“ was dedicated that had been organised by the Innovation Center Technologies for Health and Foods (IGE) of the TU Berlin on November 18th, 2011.

The event was opened by Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Huhnt, 2nd vice president of the TU Berlin, and Prof. Dr. Dietrich Knorr, head of the department food biotechnology and food process engineering at the TU Berlin. Subsequently, Prof. Artur Bartkowiak and Prof. Slawomir Stankowski, both from the West Pomeranian University of Technology (ZUT) of Stettin introduced their research areas. Lena Prochnow of BioTOP Berlin-Brandenburg presented an overview of funding possibilities for bilateral research projects.

A lively discussion about new approaches for the production of biopolymers for food packaging, for the application of algae in biotechnology and aquacultures paved the way for future polish-German joint projects.

In addition to that a poster exhibition gave insight in various projects of Polish and German scientists.

The exchange of students and the organisation of compact courses will among other things be addressed on the upcoming events.

The cooperation of the Odra region will be expanded to the Baltic Sea region and gain excellent Skandinavian partners. It will be funded by the International Bureau of the BMBF by the initiative "Network LEO – Food with energy in the Baltic Sea region".
