Research objectives

The BMBF funded project BeMobil joins 18 research partners from science, hospitals and industry. Technical aids, sensor and training systems are optimized by human-machine interaction strategies and thus contribute to an efficient, effective and accepted physical rehabilitation.

The systems have the following innovative features:

  • Accurate and reliable real-time movement detections, also for everyday life
  • Unobtrusive sensors and innovative support systems for human movements
  • Intelligent systems that are independently and intuitively applicable and can be individually adapted on the basis of body model based algorithms ("Assist-as-needed“)
  • Continous consideration of the requirements and needs of those affected by means of permanent involvement in the development and evaluation process
  • Improvements in participation and cooperation in the therapy due to new support and motivation concepts according to behavior therapeutic strategies
  • Transfer of new rehabilitation technologies from the hospital into the patients’ home with telemedicine approaches based on new media.

The technological innovations enable affected persons to an independent life. They are supported by intelligent and individually adaptable systems for movement assistance and physical rehabilitation and receive individual assistance for their independent mobility.



Research structure

The technology development is differentiated in three thematic subprojects A, B and C. Nine cross-sectional projects work on overarching themes like Ethical, Legal and Social Implications (ELSI). Further key priorities are the user-specific and customised technology design and tele-therapeutic applications.
